On the higher-order pseudo-continuum characterization of discrete kinematic results from experimental measurement or discrete simulation

The purpose of this work is the development and determination higher-order continuum-like kinematic measures which characterize discrete data obtained from experimental measurement (e.g., digital image correlation) or results modeling simulation molecular statics, dynamics, quantum DFT). From a continuum point view, such are in general non-affine incompatible, due for example to shear banding, material defects, microstructure. To information (pseudo-) fashion, concept local deformation introduced exploited. corresponding determined purely fashion independent any relation fields. Demonstration verification approach carried out with help applications based on incompatible displacement information. In particular, latter case, statics atoms around dislocation core fcc Au employed. characterization lattice distortion terms clearly shows that, even simplest case planar cores, only partly characterized by Nye tensor.
